Congratulations to Sharon Borgert, diversiCOM’s very first teacher of the year! After being announced in the Fall 2004 issue, nominations began pouring in with the names of wonderful teachers all around the area. While all teachers deserve special regard for their impact on our lives, we narrowed our choice down to one very special teacher.
All nominations were reviewed and scored by the Awards Selection Committee. The committee was made up of representatives from throughout the diversiCOM service area and included a diversiCOM employee, two school administrators, and two community members.
Mrs. Borgert is a Special Education teacher at Eden Valley-Watkins. Essays from both Mrs. Borgert and the person who nominated her were especially heartfelt and inspiring. Mrs. Borgert has made trusting, personal relationships with her students, allowing them to thrive and learn in an encouraging environment. She has also put many hours outside of school towards her position “without any accolades or fanfare”, as Graduation Standards Technician for the District and also as assistant coach for the Secondary School Speech Program. Mrs. Borgert is the receipient of the Golden Apple award from Ashland Oil, the Leadership in Educational Excellence Award, and was featured on KARE 11 as Person of the Week. She and the students have opened up a school store called the Eagle’s Nest. Proceeds from this store will go towards incentives, field trips, and scholarships. She has earned her Masters of Reading and licensure in two areas of special education and one in language arts.
Mrs. Borgert’s tremendous contribution to the school and community are what makes her diversiCOM’s Teacher of the Year. Thank you, Mrs. Borgert, for your dedication to our students.
